Celebrating and promoting diversity: a focus on the African Adire Textile Heritage
The project is based on the Adire Heritage. Adire is a fabric dyed in indigo after it has been designed with different patterns. Adire originated from Nigeria in West Africa, precisely Abeokuta in Ogun State.
This heritage will focus on creating awareness and celebrating the Adire textile cultural heritage in Luton. This will involve interviewing both young and old about their awareness of the Adire textile. It will also involve the making of the Textile. Participants and volunteers will be recruited and trained in the making of Adire textile at an accessible venue in Luton.
